Top 10 Interior Designing Trends in 2020

You want to hire an interior designer that knows Home improvement guest post, Home improvement write for us, Write for us home improvement, Gothic Home Décor, Interior design companies, Primitive Home Decor, Terrace Garden, etc.

Often times we associate trends with decades, and I, for one, am excited to see what new interior design trends are emerging in 2020 that will define the decade.

I wonder…what trends will we look back on years from now, and say, “ugh, that’s soooo 2020’s”??

Well, I don’t have the answer to that one yet, but I can share with you the top 10 interior design trends for 2020, chosen by designers and experts in the design industry.

1 – Minimalism & Art Decor Styles

The global theme for 2020 seems to be all about living a more simplistic, fulfilling lifestyle. When it comes to styles, Minimalism is a great match for this way of life. Minimalism is about keeping things clean and simple, without a lot of “extra” stuff that can make a space feel cramped.Art Deco is a style that was popular in the 1920’s through about the 1940’s, and happens to be one of my favorites. It is defined by high-contrast black and white features, pops of color, geometric patterns, luxury fabrics, glamorous lighting, and furniture with curved shapes. So break out the velvet and fill up those bar carts, because Art Deco is back!

2 – Earthy Colors

For a couple of years now, design experts have insisted that gray is out and earth tones are in.I think this is the year that people really start to embrace earth tones in their homes. I’ve definitely seen more  greens, blues, browns, and saffron shades popping up in designer rooms these days.

Navy blue will also continue to be a hot color in 2020, which makes me super happy, and you’ll be seeing black everywhere! From black cabinets, painted doors, trim, tile, and more…black is back in a huge way! When it comes to color, you can always get a good idea of what colors will be on-trend from leading paint manufacturers. . You’ll see lots of blues, greens, and other earthy tones in their 2020 color palettes.

3 – Shapely Furniture

If you want to embrace a Minimalist style, your furniture needs to do double duty, and also act as the decor in your space. So, it’s not surprising that the trend in 2020 is toward furniture with interesting shapes and details. Simple rectangular sofas and coffee tables just won’t make the cut in this evolving new decade, and instead we’ll see shapely furniture pieces with organic, rounded edges making a statement.

Another furniture trend you’ll see in 2020 is white sofas. I know, I know…it’s hard to imagine ever wanting a white sofa when you have kids and pets. But designers are digging the clean, bright look, and today’s performance fabrics make owning a white sofa a possibility for even the red wine lovers among us!

4 – Bold Patterns

Popular patterns in 2020 will include geometric shapes, and the return of florals!  All of you floral lovers out there are going to be thrilled to see this feminine pattern showing up again in wallpaper, pillow covers, and upholstery fabrics. Chinoiserie wallpaper has been popping up on my Instagram feed a lot lately, and is definitely going to have a moment in 2020.

I, for one, am excited about the beautiful geometric patterns I’ve been seeing in tile and wallpaper. It’s great for those of you wanting a more modern look in your homes for the new decade.

5 – Two-Tone Kitchens

According to design professionals, all-white kitchens are out! I know some of you will not be happy to hear this news, and are still completely in love with the look of a clean, white kitchen. But designers are just over the white cabinets, white counter tops, and white back splashes that were hugely popular in the 2010’s.

The good news is that you can still have some white cabinets in 2020, because two-toned kitchens are in! The key is to introduce some other color besides white. For example, pair white upper cabinets with dark gray, navy, or black lower cabinets for a fresh, on-trend look.

6 – Focus on Multi functional & Sociable Living

Casual living is here to stay, and so are spaces that incorporate space for a variety of activities. The needs of our homes can change over time, as families grow and change, and our rooms sometimes need to adapt over time. Need a homework station in your living room? Does your dining room need to double as an office space? Today, it’s not only okay to combine multiple functions into a single room, it’s a trend!

7 – Canopy Beds

Canopy beds are back in a big way! But not the thick, heavy, curtained canopy beds from long ago. Today’s canopy beds feature a sleek, modern look that can be paired with a wide variety of furnishings and work with just about any design style.

8 – Bold Bathroom Design

I always advise clients to go big on design with their powder rooms, and I’m so excited to see that 2020 is embracing bold bathroom design! Bathrooms are a great place to add a funky wallpaper, install a unique sink, or put in a show-stopping wall tile.

9 – Crittall-Style Windows & Doors

You may have seen Crittall-style windows and doors popping up in your Pinterest and Instagram feeds for a few years now, as they have steadily gained in popularity for residential interiors.

Today, we’re not just seeing them used for windows and doors, but also in the bathroom as shower doors, and as partial walls and dividers in dining and living rooms. They have an edgy, industrial look that is able to complete a room, and transform it into a sleek, modern space like nothing else!

10 – Painted Doors & Trim

This one makes me very happy, because I have been a huge fan of painted doors for a long time! White doors and trim are ‘expected’, and now that we’ve entered a new decade, it’s time to shake things up a bit. Paint is a fantastic way to add a pop of color, and some character into any room in your home.
